Lawyer knew the doctor that was fault in accident

I am currently located in Alabama. Would it be considered malpractice if the attorney I hired to represent me knew or even was a patient of the dentist and his wife was at fault in an accident?

This is the story a little over 6 months ago a car ran a red light and hit my car totaling it. I was in out of the doctors for a month. I hired a attorney after talking to other peoples insurance company, they stated "they would need to do a investigation since there were conflicting stories." well its either she ran the light or didn't. During my first and only visit with my attorney she asked me if this was "doctor *****'s wife ?" well I figure it might just be another person with the same last name. After leaving her office I felt good that we would not run in much trouble because of the police report (which I went out and got and pictures of the accident scene). In the police report I stated that my light was green the whole time while the other driver could NOT recall. AND that she had a small yapping dog in the front and three teenage girls in the back.

This is the first time i have dealt with a lawyer so I didn't what was suppose to happen. The only form of contact between me and her was through emails and 1-2 calls from her assistant. Well weeks went by I got an email from my attorney stating she sent a letter to the insurance company stating she was representing me. a few more weeks, I emailed her, she emailed back nothing has happened. The holidays came by i made a list of expense incurred because of the accident and a spread sheet of medical statements for her. Came back after the holidays, I emailed her to let her know that i was back in town, that was when she told me that my claim was "DENIED" After that she has not responded to my emails. so i decided to get a new lawyer, well the new lawyer told me that it would be much much harder now since I didn't have any witnesses and the only person that would be creditable was the officer at the scene. But it was now almost 3 months. New lawyer was honest and told me that it was very difficult now and he didn't understand why my lawyer didn't get a written statement from the officer in the beginning. It is now a case of he said she said, and I have the burden of proof. That was when my attorney's comment clicked. so i looked up the doctors with the same last name as the lady that hit me. Well guess what? her husband is a doctor! and his office is only a few miles from my attorneys office!

Is there a way for me to find out if she is really a patient of the dentist? I feel like she lead me on, Now that i think about it, she didn't do anything, she only sent out two letters to the insurance company.
