legal recourse for neglegient attorney

What is the name of your state? ohio

Daughter just found out that her divorce findings were based soley on her soon to be ex's statement of what he SAID he could afford. After some checking, we discovered that HER attorney filed whatever paperwork that is required after the hearing over 3 months after the hearing, did not include calculations and did not provide info requested by the judge concerning tax ramifications in awarding dependents for tax purposes. This late file caused husbands attorney to challange it and the challange was upheld by court. All this happened without my daughters knowledge. Daughter did not recieve copies of either her or her husband's attorney "after the trial" submissions. Her attorney did not even realize that there was never a temporary support granted. He was never available when she called and as much as 3 weeks could go by before he would return her call. In an attept at brevity, I won't list anymore. My question is: is there cause for malpractice suit against her attorney? Can the individual who hired the attorney be punished for his ineffectivesness? How much is the individuals responsibilty to know what the law requires and if their attorney is following it? Didn't she have any rights to know, even by the court, that her attorney was't doing his job? I might add the husband makes about $175,000 per year and can well afford adequate support.
