medical information privacy??

What is the name of your state? Oklahoma I had a personal relationship with an employee at a local law firm. This person was aware that i had a heart condition which i did not want my relatives aware of until i knew more about what would take place as far as treatment. I was also made aware during routine tests that i could possibly have the HIV virus and needed more testing. I asked this person in email to them at the law firm to not say anything to my parents until i knew more and that i would prefer to inform them myself. By relatives I am referring to my elderly parents who both have heart conditions and are not in the best of health.. My father has had two heart attacks and two bypasses. I did not want them notified until until i knew more and didnt want to cause them undue stress. This person however notified them on their own without my knowledge and consent after being asked not to.. Is this a violation of my medical privacy whether ethically, criminally or civil? This person is not an attorney but a legal secretary/paralegal in the firm.

But was the firm representing you in some capacity? It's hard to tell because you're saying "them" ... Because if you just have a blabber mouth friend who just happens to work in a law office, then it's no different than if he/she worked at a minimart. There's no privilege.

Thats what i was thinking.. just wanted to hear it from someone else.. thanks much for your reply.. Guess i should just chalk it up to "not a real friend in the beginning"
