What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

I retained an attorney approximately 7 years ago for a child custody situation. Everything was settled very quickly with little work actually performed by my attorney. I subsequently moved to Florida. I was recently cleaning out my filing cabine and came across a bill from that attorney showing a $3,000 credit. Am I entitled to that back? How long do attorneys keep a client's retainer in trust? I feel pretty silly asking this since so much time has passed but I appreciate all feedback. Thanks.
