My Attorney Won't Allow Me To Pay Him!

What is the name of your state?ca
I HAD A OPEN AND SHUT CASE. ALL PARTIES CONCERNED AGREED THAT THE OTHER DRIVER WAS 100% AT FAULT.
I HAD 8,000 IN CHIROPRACTOR BILLS AND DIAGNOSTIC,COMBINED.
MY ATTORNEY HARDLY WORKED ON THE CASE.NEVER RETURNED
CALLS,USUALLY QUITE RUDE.DID NOT INFORM ME ABOUT THE DEFENDANT'S INSURANCE ATTORNEYS OFFER FOR MEDIATION. INFACT, THE ONE LETTER HE DID WRITE TO THE DEFENDANT'S ATTORNEY SAID I WOULD NOT BE INTERESTED IN MEDIATION AND
IT WOULD JUST MAKE ME WORSE!OTHER THINGS THAT WE DISCUSSED, BUT WERE INACCURATE, WERE ALSO INCLUDED IN THE LETTER. RECEIVED A WHOLE
11,000 OFFER FROM THE INSURANCE COMP.I AM INJURED AND THIS WAS OVER 3 YEARS AGO.
HIS ASSISTANT CALLED AND SAID I COULD NOT PAY MY ATTORNEY THE 1,700 I OWED HIM.(THE AMOUNT HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERBAL PER THE ASSISTANTS.)I WOULD HAVE TO ACCEPT THE 11,000 OFFER AND HE'D TAKE IT OUT OF THAT, OR IF I GO TO ANOTHER ATTORNEY,"CONTINGENCY."THAT IS,1/3 0F SETTLEMENT.
I NEVER SIGNED ANYTHING EXCEPT TO REMOVE MY FILE FROM HIS OFFICE.NO WRITTEN AGREEMENTS OF ANY KIND.
HOW CAN I PAY HIM AND STOP HIM FROM GETTING INTO THE SETTLEMENT MONEY(WHENEVER!). IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN DIG OUT OF THIS HOLE NOW?NO ATTORNEYS HERE THAT COULD REALLY GO AGAINST THE INSURANCE COMPANY.ANY SUGGESTIONS?
SORRY,WON'T USE THE CAP KEY AGAIN..

Call the State Bar of California at 1-800-843-9053 to register a complaint.

You should have taken care of this three years ago by firing him.

Don't count on any answers if you post in all caps again.

Sorry,about previous caps..
Should I fire him now or wait to see what happens?
I already have the paperwork to file a complaint against him from the Ca Bar.By the way,I was on the phone with the claims rep for two years.I've had the attorney about 14 months.
