Police Lying on TicketWhat is the name of your state? Wisconsin I was pulled over the other day because i was speeding but i was speeding to avoid being rear ended. the vehicle ahead of me was slowing down to turn left and the vehicle behind me did not see that. I honked and the vehicle was not slowing. I accelerated around the vehicle and the cop told me he caught me at one intersection but wrote another down on the ticket. This other road was a block behind where he said and would put me into a school zone. I am wondering if fighting the ticket would be worth it. I watched my speedometer and it never went above 33 but the cop said i was going 37. this difference could be attributed to my swerving back toward the cop to get into the middle of my lane. the ticket was 172 but i believe that it should be less or even removed. is it worth fighting or would court fees be more than that price? |

SpeedSorry to burst your bubble, but in court they would probably tell you that your speedometer could be faulty, especially with a difference of 4mph. They'll ask the cop if his radar had recently been checked, which I believe they have to be certified every few months and checked a few times a week, and of course he'll say it has. They'll ask you if you've ever had your speedometer checked for accuracy, and unless you can say it has and when, you're gonna be found guilty. It sucks, but you should probably just pay the ticket and be done with it. I don't live in WI, so I don't know the laws, but can you get probation or court supervision? |

| {Quote}I watched my speedometer and it never went above 33 but the cop said i was going 37{Unquote} If you were watching your speedometer and it never went above 33, your eyes were off the road. A case can be made for reckless driving by you and by the other driver. Pay the ticket. |
