What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Can someone point me to a good discussion of exactly what you are allowed to do and not allowed to do without violating the rule that you can not Practice Law Without a License?

As I understand it, without license I can not represent someone else in court and I can not be reimbursed for giving my friends and relatives my opinions regarding legal actions they should take.

But this leaves a lot in between.

For example, can I sit down with a relative for free and help him write a statement he plans to take to court? Can I help him fill out a summons and complaint? etc? Can I explain to him why I think he should go to Superior Court?

I hope there is a good discussion of this somewhere.

I googled the title of your post with your state name and came up with "About 295,000 results [in] (0.23 seconds)."

That's because I am only 79 years 11 months and 2 weeks old. If I said I was 80 I was rounding up. Born 4/15/1933 in an adoption hospital for unmarried mothers in San Francisco.

But thanks for inquiring.

Progress Report - no progress, it's still dragging on. I wrote a lot of complaints to the agency management in DC in the form of preambles to FOIAs. "given [description of the crime] I would like to request info as a FOIA as follows:] The local agency has gone mysteriously silent and refuses to issue communications on the subject. My hope is that some sort of criminal investigation is under way. I was sending my FOIAs through the DC office - they suggested I send them direct to the local office - I replied I was trying to get them involved because it looked like a crime was under way.
