What is the name of your state? CA

I am wondering if I can contact the courts, get in touch w/ the DA handling a specific case, & ask them about the case?? My son's father is going to court soon on a posession of controlled substance charge & I would like to find out the status & what the DA is planning to do. He & I are not together anymore, but he is court-ordered to pay child support & I need to plan for him not being here for a while...I guess??

It can't hurt to call them, they may or not tell you anything other than when the hearing is.
