Question about lawyer

What is the name of your state? Alabama.

I am currently involved in a wrongful death case which has been going on now for the past few years and I have recently contacted a cash advance company to loan me some money to help out with expenses. The only problem with this is my lawyer is refusing to release my case information to the company so they can process my claim. Is this something my lawyer can do legally? Can he refuse to give out the information I have paid for him to collect and investigate? Also when I first approached him about this he charged me an extra $100 to compile all of the case information together to send it to the company however, now he will not release it.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Make an appointment to see your lawyer. Ask him why he isn't releasing the information.

I have done just that for over a week and a half. He says that he has had clients in the past that once they received the settlement would get upset at him because they were expecting more and would forget about getting the loan. Regardless of his past cases how can he deny my request after charging me?

It could be his way of indirectly telling you that he strongly disagrees with what you are doing. You may be better off not using the cash advance company because they are known for unscrupulously taking advantage of people. How much is your settlement and how much is the cash advance company going to be giving you? It is a raw, unfair deal since they only offer you about a third or fourth of what the settlement is and you have lost all of that money just because you couldn't wait a little while.

If you have a bank or credit union that you have dealt with, you would be better off asking for a loan or a letter of credit from them than using a cash advance company.

You need to be asking your attorney what the reason is for the holdup in you receiving your settlement money.
