scammed by our attorney...

What is the name of your state? Michigan

We have a personal injury case with an attorney who we found out was settling cases without his clients knowledge as he did with ours we have found out as well....forging signatures on documents and therefore on the settlement check that was issued and cashed/deposited into his personal bank account....then if this isn't bad enough...he committed suicide earlier this month....we are lost as to what our options are at this point....we never settled anything in the first place....so where do we go from here???....

You RUN, don't walk, to a good local attorney who can pursue a claim against the sleaze-ball's estate.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

This is so new and such a shock....we are still hearing stuff about how this was common practice for this attorney....as for his estate....there is info out there that he has no assets and that he transferred any he had into his wife's name....a huge mortgage where there is no equity in....I don't know about you but I have never heard of this kind of thing happening let alone happening to us....thanks for your suggestion..

I'd file a complaint with these folks too - this might be something they'll cover:

I have a feeling you're right on that one....that is one avenue we are looking at....also...the wife of this Attorney says there are no assets....I think she's not being honest though.....there is a blog that one of his victims started where the wife is replying to posts as well as her attorney is replying on her behalf.....my question I pose is that if this attorney settled our suit on his own without our knowledge and did so through forging all documentation needed to do so as well as the settlement check....how is this legally a settled case???...thanks..

I can't remember which ones we talked to that told us about a fund set up that helps people recover their loss through the government....it was either the state bar or the grievence board however there is only so many dollars coverage per attorney for this type of thing and as we are finding out he has left a lot of victims in his path of destruction....so I'm not sure what's going to happen in that regard...but I do appreciate your response....
