Question

shouldn't a lawyer discuss fees upfront?

What is the name of your state?NC------We have a civil case awaiting the court date and the date has been put off several times until now. However, since the start of the lawyer taking on the case (and we have met with him several times regarding the case), he has never once discussed his fees with us. We have known this lawyer for over 8 years and he has done several other things for us that we have paid for (house closing, etc), but on this case, he has not mentioned a retainer fee, hourly fees, etc. Isn't that unusual for a lawyer to do? P.S---the other things he did for us had a one-time fee, so there was never a need for discussing rates.
