What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NEW JERSEY

I've retained a contingency attorney to help with a money judgment. The attorney-client contract states the attorney gets 33% if judgment recovered. I paid postage and court filing fees for motions that he filed. The attorney sent a letter nothing else he can do. I don't owe money to the attorney. I don't want to break the contract, yet, just in case. If i recover money on my own without the attorney's help, do i have to pay him 33%? Should i terminate representation before i attempt to recover money?

what does your contract say to the matter of terminating the contract?

The attorney sent a letter nothing else he can do.
Not sure what that means.

has a suit been filed? What is the status of the suit if there is one pending?
