Texas - So he was just a kid and scared to death. 17. He did not do it but they locked him up. He had no money. No family money. They kept postponing court. Months turned to a yr, etc. etc. His lawyer told him they had a witness, they were offering a good plea bargain. They wore him down, he signed. A year later, back in jail. He couldn't get a job, couldn't pay his fees, etc. It was a rape charge!! He was the plague!! In the meantime, the other young man charged with him has had his case dismissed. He had money. His lawyer actually worked the case. The accuser has now backed off, the witness has admitted to cooking up the story so the other girls mother would think she was raped instead of sexually active at 13. So the truth is out. It never happened. And yet -- the DA and the court appointed attorney for the first young man are still today working to give him (DA) 40 yrs, (lawyer) 20. Why? Because he signed (under duress) a plea agreement so he could go home. Texas justice at it's finest? Or just the normal abuse of the plea bargain system? Or both? I vote for both.
