Is this unethical/illegal?

What is the name of your state? PA

I will keep this short and to the point. My gf has an ex-boyfriend who is a criminal defense attorney. For months he has been trying to break up us, saying bad things about me etc. I recently found out that in the begining of our relationship, he ran a criminal background check on me, and found my parents address, and well as their DOBs etc. He provided this information to my girlfriend. Now, I have a clean background, as does my family, so no worry there. However, it really bothers me that someone who dislikes me accessed my personal information, then shared it with someone.

All drama aside, is this illegal for him to do? Did he abuse a restricted access computer system? Can I file a complaint with the Attorney Generals Office , or complain to his firm?
I also know he has run checks on 2 previous guys she dated.

Thanks for any advice

Sounds like a perfectly legal background check. As a defense attorney, he doesn't have access to any sort of restricted computer system. The stuff he came up with sounds like public record.

This is, quite possibly, the worst advice I have ever seen on this forum. Advising someone to commit murder is generally frowned upon here.

I agree.

But I still think that stinks.

A note to the disciplinary committee may be a good idea.

Thanks for the advice.

I was pretty sure what did what he did was not illegal. I thought you needed someones consent to run a background check on them if it wasnt for law enforcement purposes.

Another attorney around here advised me to contact the ethics comittee at the Philly Bar Association and advise them of my concern.

Lastly, are there any good legal directories to look him up in? I only know his first name, middle name, and last initial. I know his field and what city he works in, as well is DOB and law school he graduated from. I just need to get his last name if I am going to send a message to the ethics board.

Thanks again for the advice.
