Question

What happens when you file an ethics complaint with your state?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

I filed an ethics complaint against my previous attorney.

They have been asked by the state to respond to the petition that issued on my behalf.

(I think that is the proper language)

Now what?

Will I be able to counter-to any response that she produces?

If, after all is said and done, and she is found "guilty" of an ethics violation(s), would I be in a position to seek compensation through her malpractise insurance?

Any insight?

Follow Up

I received a letter from the state of Illinois (Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois)

Old attorney filed her response - Nov 21 (I sent my complaint October 3, it was received October 8)

I have 14 days to respond to her response and/or provide more information.

After this, they will evaluate this matter and advise me of thier decision.

I am not sure what timeline this will take place, so if anyone has any insight, please pass this on!

Thanks
