whoaskewmy mom was in a car accident last year and went to see her doctor.this doctor refered her to a lawyer.after the settlement which she received 20,000 dollars she found out that her doctor received 1500.00 dollars of the settlement.this doctor is her primary care doctor so the money was not for medical bills.can anyone tell me if this is against the law because if it isnt it should be. thanks |

| You are not specific as to the basis for the fee. A physician would be legally entitled to be paid for his time if he prepared a medical report at the request of the attorney or testified at a deposition or hearing. Physicians rates for such are easily several hundred dollars per hour. Testifying in court as an expert witness can easily earn them well over $500 per hour. It's part of the cost of doing business in the legal system. |
