Question

98 Pontiac Grand Prix

What is the name of your state? Illinois

On July 2, 2005 I purchased a Used 98 Pontiac Grand Prix from a used car dealer. The car came as-is, with now expressed or written waranty. On July 20, 2005 and 1,100 miles later, my service engine soon light came on. I took to the dealer's shop for their "diagnosis" and they came back and informed me that there was a problem with my transmission, something about a valve body. I also need to have my shifter assembly replaced, which was causing my key to be difficult to remove from the ignition. The estimate to fix these repairs was 1,300 dollars. I was not aware of these defects at the time of purchase, nor have these problems come as a result of my driving. These problems will ultimately cause the car to become inopperable. My question is Does the dealer have any responsiblity to fix these problems? I have had the car for roughly 19 days, and put roughly 1100 miles on it.

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!

Thanks
FD

As-Is means you get no warranty.

When buying a used car, get it checked out by your own mechanic before buying it.

As for the $1300 in repairs, go to a normal repair shop that is not a dealer and you will see the price drop dramatically.
