buying a car from out of state dealer

i'm in california.
if i buy a new car from a dealer (branded dealer e.g. bmw, ford) in another state, in this case south carolina, what are the realities of lemon law protection and/or remedy? i have read that the state in which the car is bought is the state of jurisdiction, but in practical terms, i'm not sure what that means.

I think you had better check the legality of doing what you are considering. California has its own emissions laws and I believe you cannot bring in a brand new car such as you are considering unless the vehicle specifically meets California requirements.

let's assume it does and it will pass certfication. this particular marque and model are all 50 state certified post 2004.... which is in itself not unusual these days.

well, I'll take your word about jurisdiction.

California is not going to enforce South Carolina's laws. If you want somebody to enforce South Carolina's laws, you will have to be in a SC court. So, if SC has jurisdiction, you will have to take action in SC.
