false advertisement from private sellerI apologize. This is not concerning the lemon law per say, but I saw other threads regarding this type or situation and thought this would be the best place to post. My girlfriend and I live in Maryland and I accompanied her to purchase a car from a private seller. We found the car on Craigslist and printed out the ad, which we still have. In the ad it states that the car is in mint condition and has just passed inspection. The car was not in mint condition. Several things have had to be fixed. I understand that nothing can be done to get the guy for lying to us now that the car has already been purchased. It took us 2 month's to get the title from him. We are nice people and gave him a chance to get it from whatever relative was holding it. Obviously we should have demanded it from the start or not bought the car. We still have not recieved the spare key or the "other paperwork" that he said goes with the car. I just recently took it to get it MD inspected and it didn't pass. We talked to the seller telling him he falsly advertised that the car had passed inspection. We were very discreet and civil when explaining to him that we wanted him to pay for the repairs it needs to pass inspection or to give us our money back. He retaliated with many insults and threats, one of which was "you don't know who you are messing with." We were led to believe the inspection papers were in the papers that he still needs to give us. Isn't there a law in MD about falsly advertising that the car has been inspected? I also apologize if this post is confusing. I am extremely irritated and I don't know what to do. If there's any more information I can put up for a better or more in depth answer please let me know. |

| Copy and paste the link below. This is everything you and your girlfriend didn't do. Maryland Attorney General - Consumer Publications - Buying a Used Car If the seller did not supply the inspection certificate, which must be done within 90 days of the sale, your girlfriend can sue the seller to rescind the sale. She may want to consult an attorney first.

| I would just add to have the mechanic that did inspect it for possibility , to note on the invoice/receipt , that in their expert opinion , the car was not in passable condition at the time of sale/purchase , and note the defects . Get a estimate printout of repair cost(s) for those defect(s).
