Those are some very good questions,,,why , why why. didnt I?. I dont want this to sound like it was the entire reason I did not do those things but here is my reason why,
In 2005 after 10 years of chronic back pain I was issed a disability retirement because after 32 loyal years with Exxon My back sergeon told me I could no longer do the climbing and heavy work that was my daily job. I went a year batteling Exxon about the retirement , my benefits and all the time being mentally anguished not knowing for sure how it was gonna turn out. Then in 2006, a year later this truck thing came up and I was not wanting any more stress in my life...So I just throw in the towel and cut off the anxiety. I since went on medication for anxiety and depression. I am better now under my current meds. I slowed down and this is really on my mind now to settle this up...I have the money to pay it off but dread the thought of getting back into it with this guy at the collection agency! Plus I hate to pay them since I was ripped off..I feel/ bad truck!
THATS why I made stupid decisions but aI still feel like Ford screwed me since I had it fianaced through FORD Credit...
Now I know that may seem like the worlds largest violin playing my heart bleeds for you but that is the truth...

Cuckl (I know for a fact that if someone bought that vehicle they are haveing the same problem)

Actually I DO pay attention to a lot of stuff. This was the 9th ford that I have bought in my life. Ford made very little effort to satisfy me and acted like they could have cared less for me as a customer...i WAS JUST A PROBLEM TO THEM! i AM SURE THAT i WILL HAVE TO EVENTUALLY PAY THIS DEBT. BUT (Sorry, didnt mean to shout) I have never been through this and just needed some questions answered...I have always paid my bills and my credit rate used to show it. I raised good kids and go to church and volunteer my time just like anyone else, But I have a hard time takeing in in the shorts from big corpaorations.
But there is still one question that is unanswered. Cant they compound interest on this debt.....?

The collection agency can claim whatever they like (and do, quite often). You owe for the truck. Call the original creditor and see how much you owe them (and offer them a reasonable settlement for the account; it doesn't hurt, especially if you tell them that you're ready to write the check today). Get the amount/agreement in writing. DO NOT give them any kind of electronic access to any accounts. Pay them off with a certified check, sent CRRR. Keep all paperwork related to this forever.

Advice taken straight from Mr. D. Ramsey.

No one is trying to be purposely mean but there are protocols to follow and you are a grown man and you know this.

You may have temporarily relieved some stress but in the long run you have added more than you bargained for.

Try to settle for a lower amount as the other poster suggested.

I take that as good advice...I intend to contact Ford soon and see if I can get the amount reduced. I agree That I owe but it is plain to realize that if the truck sold on the open arket instead of the auction block it would have sold for more...thus, my arguement!
Thank you all for the advice and the encouragment. Even you Zigner...:-)

They sell them through auction; that's how these things work. If you wanted it sold on the open market, you should have sold it yourself.

Yes, I understsand that part of it. I did not want to sell the thing on the market because I did not want to sell it to someone and they then go out and kill someone with it....Thanks

It was seriously dangerous...it would just take off...and its still out there somewhere

Ok all...I called ford motors and they directed me to the Fianance dept. and they told me it was out of their hands. That it had gone to collection agent.
I called the agent and they quoted me the original price I owed...12k....I asked if they would reduce the amount so he ran something on his pc and came back with a $9900.00
I said I was hopeing for like 8k..He made a phone call and reduced it again to $9100.00
Ha, kinda like buyin a car huh?

So, I took yalls advice, made them send me email with letterhead, account number and letter stated that this amount would satisfy the contract....mailed it overnite air certified mail with a responce notice. (signed by them)

So can there be anymore surprises are do you think this will suffice?
Thanks for the advice all!
