I dont know what to do.. please help

Hello,
Here is my situation.
About year and half ago i hired an lawyer to represent me on my thought to be a lemon car. I have close to 13 pages of repair orders all various, but some are re-repairs and others are one time repair. My lawyer, whom he told me i have 99% chance of winning assure me that this case would go smoothly and that my case is easy win.

Like i said, its been over a year now and just few days ago i called him but his assistant answered and said " he is sick" so i asked her if she knew my case. she replied " it has been submitted but doesnt know the indepth information about my case.

I thought to myself this is crazy.. its been over a year and no settlement?
back in jan. i talk to him and he said. its in process. again i called him today to see whats the status is.."assistant answered" replied " he is out of the office" he doesnt inform me on anything. .cant not get in touch with him.. doesnt reply to my voicemails that i left him. very frasturating.

CAN I DO ANYTHING???? i didnt know lemon law case takes this long.
when i hired him back in early 2004, i really thought i can get some type of settlement within months NOT years.

Can i fire him? get my retainer back? is he just taking his sweet time to handle my case? any information would be greatly appericiated.
