What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida

We leased a car from a dealership 10 days ago. We were told when we leased it that the car had undergone an inspection to meet Florida regulations and then they did a further inspection to meet their (the dealerships) standards. We were given a free 30 day 1500 mile warranty on the car for a specialist they use or pay a $200 out of pocket and they cover the rest for a specialist we choose. After 6 days we had to take the car to one they sent us to, because they car was shaking at highway speeds and pulling to the right pretty hard.

We figured it was unaligned or needed to be balanced, no big deal. After the diagnostic was done it turns out the car is pretty messed up to say the least, just so you know my wife and I were driving on the highway with our kids in the car before this point.

Turns out it has 3 bent wheels (how you bend three steel wheels is beyond me) it needs the front end brakes completely replaced, it needs a new front axle, and the door handle on the passenger side was super glued together and ended up snapping off and one of the tires was rotten.

Now they are going to honor the warranty and replace everything that needs it, however in the mean time we don't want to drive the car if we can help it.

Is there anything we can do about our payment as we are not using it because of all the damage it has to it? It seems a bit unfair we should ahve to make a bi weekly payment on a vehicle that can't be driven safely without a fear of a blowout (specialists words) do to tire rot or the fact that is has bad front brakes bent wheels and a dodgy axle?

Oh and under the agreements of the lease we can and are supposed to get a oil change free of charge every 4000 miles with this comes a free one time brake replacement. Would them needing to replace the brakes 10 days after getting the vehicle take away from that or would this be covered by the warranty because they sold it to use with shody brakes?

What you have described will take about a day to repair - maybe two depending on how busy the shop is.

Talk to the dealership.

We have to wait until Monday for them to get the parts and then call us for an appointment to go get it fixed and then the time getting it fixed on top of that.

And if they are telling us both the sales guy and his manager said they underwent these inspections and then the car being in such a bad shape isn't that in itself dangerous? I just feel they have totally misrepresented themselves and the car they sold us, and put us in danger with a dodgy vehicle.

I have to tell you that I'm a little surprised that your mechanic didn't catch all these problems during his/her inspection if they were so obvious.

I don't think they ever did the inspection like they claim, otherwise they would have noticed the car in such bad shape or they did the inspection and hoped it would go unnoticed for the duration of the 30 day warranty. Either way they lied to us by telling us it underwent inspections and the car was in good condition.

Why did your independent mechanic allow you to purchased such an obvious clunker?

PS: Repair shops, particularly when insurance is involved, have been known to ...mmmmm...exaggerate their claims a bit.

We never had an independent mechanic? The dealership told us the car was inspected, and then we took it to one of their approved mechanics to get it looked at after we noticed the the car shaking and and pulling, we had the choice to take it to one we wanted but would of had to cover the first $200. Using their approved mechanic was free. It was them who told us how bad the car was, after we agreed to lease it which was after they told us it went had met both the dealership and Florida state regulations.

We would never have got the car let alone put our kids in it if someone had said "hey this car has a broken axle 3 bent wheels dodgy front brakes and tire rot" none of that was told to us prior to purchasing the car. We were told it underwent inspections to meet regulations.

The mechanic is fixing it at no cost per the terms of the warranty. Does the warranty allow for a rental car?

No rentals. We are using Uber and Taxi's to get around until it's fixed, really don't want to drive my kids around in a car that clearly has so many issues. Wouldn't the sales guy and his manager both be liable for saying it underwent inspections when it obviously didn't? It's costing us a small fortune to use these modes of transportation. We simply can't pay to travel and pay them as well.

We traded our truck to get this car so without it we have no vehicle.
