What is the name of your state? North Carolina

I sold a 1996 Toyota 4-Runner over a year and a half ago and now I received a letter in the mail from an Attorney saying the title is salvaged/junk. Here is where my problem is. When I bought this vehicle 3 year prior I got a loan at the Local Government Credit Union, when I sold this vehicle, the man that bought it got a loan at the State Employees Credit Union. I had no knowledge of the title being Salvaged and if it was at the time I purchased it and the other man that bought it from me, we would not have been able to get a loan on it because Credit Unions to not loan on a salvaged/junk title, I called to ask. Should I be liable for this now?
