What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

My question is an anonymous forum name protected from libel/slander?

Say I use the name The_Blueberry in the forum and have been a member for years and have an established identity albeit anonymous. Then a few posters come into the forum and smear the name and start a weblog demeaning that name is that considered libel/slander?

Is a fictitious name protected at all?

What are your monetary damages? Hurt feelings, especially when it comes to anonymous names, are not actionable.

So, there is no recourse then if my good forum name has been besmirched by horrible comments about me? They just started a website tonight using my forum name with all kinds of ugly and pornographic pictures that are supposedly suppose to be me and are linking to it from the forum to which I belong. I have enjoyed this forum for years and have made many cyber friends in it. I feel that I am being driven away unfairly. Yes my feelings are horribly hurt and they are preventing me from enjoying a place I like to spend a lot of my time. Surely there must be something I can do as the forum moderators will not ban these people and I thought I could take some
sort of legal action to prevent this from happening and take down the website they just put up using my forum name. Any help here would be greatly appreciated to what legal actions I can take.

I too am interested if there are legal actions I can take. I post in a news forum in Detroit and I tell it like it is and some people feel offended by what I post. I know my rights to free speech and I know how to exercise them! I have received repulsive replies attacking my persona and potential death threats from other members in this forum. I have complained to the newspaper moderator and managed to get a few of them banned but I am afraid for my life some days. With some of the teabagger lunatics that are on the loose these days, I take these threats VERY seriously. Is there any legal actions I can take against these threats to protect myself from harm?

Please don't laugh at me. There are some dangerous crazy people out there!

Thanks for your time!

Two points:

First - you have no inherent "right" to post there, no matter what you believe.
Second - Maybe you should stop frequenting such dangerous forums.

Ok, one more point: Start your own thread.

When you brag that you "tell it like it is," you basically are telling people that you have a right to be rude, unpleasant, arrogant and intolerant; however, they are supposed to respect your "freedom of speech."

Why do people who get on the Internet expect it to be different from their lives off the Internet?

Come on people stop being mean to the blueberry, can't you see the virtual tears running down his/her face. You are all grounded!!!

There now blubery... I mean blueberry. I've grounded the meanies:cool:

Of course there is legal action you can take. You can hire an attorney and spend thousands of dollars to battle for the honor of your virtual self.

You have my sympathies t_hammer. Apparently some people don't understand the nature of the vicious attacks that are taking place on the internet. The death threats against my cyber persona will not go unpunished!

Private Forum

Hi there,

I'm moderator on a private forum. One particular member was morphing into many different personalities and the different monikers she created were disrupting the forum to the point where no honest conversation could occur. The person was banned, but keeps trying to come back.

Does this person have any legal right to be on this forum? She seems to think this is a freedom of speech issue.

Thanks,

You are a moderator in a forum:eek:.

That is weird, must not be the typical, everyday type of a forum because a forum moderator would know that it is not good netiquette to highjack another person's thread:rolleyes:

My most humble apologies, oh wise one. I was reading this thread and noticed the same subject and was hoping I could inquire here.

Would this forum prefer I begin another thread on the similar subject?

Please advise.
