I agree with everything JetX said. All of the facts have to be known to give you an accurate answer.

As a very general answer, however, falsely accusing a person or a business of fraud is defamatory. In many states (not all) such a false accusation leveled against a person or business would be defamatory "per se" and presume a certain amount of reputational injury.

The facts that you have not revealed here could give a clearer indication as to whether what was said is actionable defamation or not.
