Email slander

What is the name of your state? Massachusetts

I go to several benefits each year and usually pay for tickets via credit card. I recently attended one that had a silent auction. At the end of the evening I noticed I had the high bid when they collected the bids- but someone elses name was shown to be the high bidder! When I emailed the organization they replied by saying I was not a paying guest, how did I get in, etc. and refused to tell me who won the item. I told them I charged it and I could proove it on my next statement. He then proceeded to say that I "was not gracious to the married and engaged ladies" (as I did not know anyone there I did not understand the implication). He then made reference to me "crashing an event" and he was going to call "some friends in the media as this is probably not the first time you have crashed an event".
My statement came and the ticke price did not show up ! I promptly paid the $ 100. I would have NEVER crashed an event as I am the President of a reputable company in Boston. Would I "crash" an event and then complain about the auction? Only an idiot would do that. I am deeply offended by what they said via email. Should I go legal, complain to a state overseer of Non-Profits or let it lie?

If the rules say you had to be a paid guest and you weren't, then you can't win the prize.

This is not a case of defamation - the exchange was between them and you directly. NOW, you have published it yourself...

Yea! Ziggy the Court Jester presiding.
It is not LAW.

Gender references shall apply equally to the other gender. I will not correct gender mistakes (unless I want to)

The prize is not important...

I realize technically that since I was not officially registered, even though I filled out the form online, the ticket issue is settled in my mind.

I guess I am more concerned about his derogatory implications that I was "less than gracious" with the ladies and that I 'have provbably crashed these events before".

Let it go...this is not defamation.

What was the prize? It must be worth it.
