Former Employers False accusation.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I am being falsely accused of stealing merchandise from a former employer which is making it increasingly difficult to find a job and I have a family to support. My former employer is saying that they have a written statement from me saying that I had admitted to stealing merchandise. I did no such thing and was let go from that employer with no reason why. What do you think I should do?

To clarify a few points, rbaker, could you answer a few questions?

Did you sign any form admitting to the stealing of merchandise? Is there any potential evidence this employer has to support his belief that you stole merchandise (whether you did or not)?

Was a police report made of the theft? Did the police conduct an investigation into the matter?

Has your former employer repeated this accusation of theft to anyone other you or authorities?

Thanks.
