What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

I was fired from my job due to my background check that was performed on me. I have worked for the company for 13 years. The information that the background company provided was wrong. I had to dispute the incorrect information. I was escorted out of the chemical plant that I work at in front of everyone. My question is do I have grounds to sue for defamation of character and if so who do I sue, the background check company or my employer?? I did get my job back 6 days later when I proved the information was not correct. Thanks for any advice.

You got your job back. You were made whole. So, what else would you be suing for? Embarrassment?

Johnny Quest was one of my favorite cartoons from the 1960's! :)

That aside, "wrong" information" does not equate to "purposely false" information.

Defamation law in any state requires a showing of a falsehood, that is a lie.

An error in data is human at times.
