Probably not the correct place for thisWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA but was not sure where else to post this. I recently did a telephone interview for a news group. It had to do with using online forums. The interviewer and I spoke for several minutes. She did ask me my name as well as my screen name - which unfortunately I gave. I gave that information as I beleived she needed it primarily for background information. At the end of the interview she stated she would be publishing what we had spoken about. She also informed me that she would let me know when the article was published. Yesterday as I googled my own name as I do on occassion I was shocked to see this article come up. This writer had used by full name, where I lived and also my screen name. I immediately emailed her and explained that I had never given permission for her to use my name and I certainly did not appreciate her putting my real name and screen name together. I realize that I certainly do not have any sort of lawsuit as everything she did put in the article was in fact true. But is there anyway that Ican possibly have them take the article down from the internet? I have been very careful over the years to keep my name off the internet. I guess I sort of feel that I was duped. I feel she should have asked if it was ok to use my real name and screen name. I would never have given that permission. And all she said was that everything we spoke about would be published. Well yes, I understood that. But in generalities. Anyway, I could go on but am basically just wondering what I can do - if anything to get this off the internet. Many thanks! |

Have you asked her to remove your information from the article?

| yes I have asked her to remove the information. Her response was that she would pass it along to her editor. Of course I have not heard from the editor. |

| I doubt that the editor will pull the entire article from the internet, if that is what you requested. The editor could decide to delete from the article your full name, if it is not too logistically difficult. This would be done just to appease you, however, and not out of any legal obligation to do so. The writer, and therefore the news group, received proper permission from you to publish all that you said in the interview - and this included your name, your location, and your screen name. The best you can do, while waiting on the editor's decision, is to abandon your old screen name and start using a new one. You could try to delete any forum comments that you made under your old screen name, if some of these could now prove embarrassing. You may not be able to delete older posts.
