Hi, Shdshadow.

You "locked" your thread by mistake, which means no one can respond to your questions there. To "unlock" your thread, look at the top of your first post and find "Administrative." Click on it. You will see two circles (labeled "closed" and labeled "delete") and the "closed" circle will have a dot in it. Find the word "proceed" and click on this word. This will open up your thread so you can receive responses.

Please be sure to include the name of your state in your post. You can do this by using the "edit post" feature or you can "reply to thread" and make a new post with the name of your state.

From what you wrote in your thread, I can tell you that the neighbors have not "accused you of slander." You also do not appear to have been slandered by the neighbors. Slander is spoken defamation. Defamation (both slander and its written equivalent, libel) are words communicated to a third party (someone other than the target of the words) that are false and harm a reputation.

The neighbors apparently mistook you for someone else - nothing more - and your reputation does not appear to have been severely damaged by their words.

While it is possible you have neighbors who are biased against people with tattoos, I recommend you continue to be courteous in your encounters with them. Perhaps their feelings toward you, and those who "look like you," may soften over time.

Good luck.

Your neighbours did not accuse you of slander. They accused you of trespassing.
Not really. They accused him of talking to their daughter. ;)

If that was the extent of it, the accusation would (probably) not be defamatory, even if it were communicated to a third party.

As it is, the neighbors only spoke to Shdshadow, so there was no third party communication and, therefore, no defamation.

And certainly he's not guilty of slander (as he seems to think), whether or not he talked to their daughter.
