This Canadian has learned to adapt her spelling to that of the US, but still rarely notices when someone spells something the British way.

May I join the tea party? I have some Robertson's jam to contribute.

damn. I definitely have the wrong job. No tea, crumpets, jam or brandy here - just stale coffee. . . . . .

By the way, momofteens, a lot of teachers, parents, colleges and employers have a presense on Facebook. As a parent of a teenager, you should advise your child not to post incriminating pictures online - and have your teenager watch what he says online.

Many a college and many an employer have passed applicants over because of "party" pictures or derogatory comments posted and appearing on an applicant's Facebook or MySpace or LiveJournal pages. And high schools regularly monitor the postings of students, for just the reason the teacher in your post did. It is not uncommon and it is not illegal.

Devonshire - although there is some guilt in enjoying it...my ancestors (most of 'em anyway - at least the ones who weren't jailed/executed/sent to Australia) came from Cornwall!

I have to pretend to work for a few more hours, so I'm afraid I better stick with the coffee - otherwise I might start spelling words with random u's tucked in somewhere where they don't belong.

But thanks for the offer.
