What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Hawaii

My husband had through our bank Accidental and disbursement insurance. The coverage is anything that would take your life though an accident being the key word. Drowning is also under that category which is what happened to my husband months ago. What I would like to know is my husband was in remission from lung cancer, he was diagnosed in 2009. He had chemo, surgery(right top lobe) and radiation. At the time of his death he was considered cancer free, can the insurance company come back and say, the removal of the lobe was the reason for his death. I would like to know so I can be prepared.
Would appreciate any help and direction.
