Question re: Tobacco UserWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana If someone has been paying non-tobacco user rates for a term life insurance policy and is a tobacco user when they die, is the insurance policy invalid?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? |

| Basically, yes. If you are paying for non-user rates, but a tobacco user, then you are violating the contract of the insurance and the company and probably will deny any payments. |

| Perhaps no. Generally the policy is based on what is going on at the time it is applied for. You can apply as a nonsmoker if you are a nonsmoker and then later on after the policy is issued light up. There's also frequently a two year contestability period. If they don't notice the noncompliance they waive their rights to gripe later on. You'll need to read the policy to know for sure. |
