Can the parents do anything in a legal manner prohibiting her from dating him. Can they have a restraining order placed without her consent to prevent the dating. Is there any legal rights they have? State is Michigan. I am a friend of the 18 year old, age 21. |
My response:
The parents would like to think that they can do something, but it's too late for them. The age of adulthood in the United States is age 18, and has been so since March 4, 1971 (See Amendment 26 United States Constitution). Assuming the 18 year old is mentally competent, the parents can do nothing, and if they press the point, a judge will tell them the same thing.
In summary, it will be the parent's waste of money and time.
