Adding a father to birth certificate in North Carolina

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

When my son was born, my son's mother had been separated for about a year or so from her husband, but not legally divorced, yet. Anyways, we were told that we couldn't put my name on the birth certificate because she was still legally married and it had to be her husband's name. Since she didn't want to do this, she just refused to put anything on there. She is now divorced from that husband, and we are married. What do I need to do to get my name put on the birth certificate?

Thanks.
