Question

Advice for 16 year old - Ohio

What is the name of your state? Ohio

I am in physical custody of my mother, but I am told that my father also has some sort of custody over me, even though he does not pay child support and he doesnt try to visit me either, I am 16 years old, live with my mother.

I don't want to live with my father because he's controlling and somewhat abusive, and living with my mother isn't much of any good because she isn't a very good mother at all.... I've met a woman of 25 years that lives in Texas, and I'd like to go and live with her and be rid of my father and mother's quarrels for good...

I can't do this legally, but I've come up with several solutions that I have questioning on..

I won't be able to get permission to be emancipated by my parents, so that rules out that one...

If I wait until I'm 17 years old , which I believe is the legal age to move out on your own in Texas, can I move to Texas and live with her, or do the laws of Ohio still hold on me?

I could also run away, but theres several problems with that, it's illegal, and I couldnt do much of anything untilI'm 18, and even then I am unsure as to what would happen to me, would I still have charges or whatnot to face from running away when I was 16?

I can't think of any other way of being with her before I'm 18 years old.... Can you? Just curious, I'm obviously not going to go and do something like this, I am just curious as to the reprecussious and such... Thanks!

Your idea about moving to Texas is not a good one either. Your mother has physical custody of you, in Ohio, and you are still a minor. If you and the 25 year old are caught, SHE would be charged with kidnapping a minor across state lines, and arrested. I'm sure you wouldn't want that to happen either, so your best bet is to stick it out, turn 18, and move on with a life of your own. Good Luck.
