Alzheimers Dad

What is the name of your state? tx
my dad is 80 years old he always said he never wanted to go to a nursing home and saved money all his life, he is 80 years old and had open heart surgery and a mild stroke, he is also on medication for alzheimers, he was living by himself up until his surgery about 14 months ago but his health has declined since then. we hired a service to provide a live in for him about 5 months ago, we just found out that the caregiver had him to marry her. i had power of attorney but she went down and had it revoked after they were married and also closed one of his checking accounts and had her name put on the cd and money market acount and had his kids taken off. my dad had the accounts set us as pod's. what can we do? is this legal? i'm afraid she will spend his money and leave him broke and he will be forced to go into a nursing home anyway, or worse! i know he does not understand what he really did, but she won't leave us alone with him. thanks for any advice, james

If he was diagnosed with Alzheimers when he married her, and/or if he didn’t have a primary diagnosis of Alzheimers and was on Alzheimers medication for dementia, you need to consult with someone regards this situation and his future welfare.

Here is the site for the Texas Dept of Health. There is also a link on this site for the Texas Council on Alzheimers. Contact these people and tell them what has happened regards this woman marrying him and your concerns that she is going to take him to the bank. Tell them you want to prevent this from happening.

Good luck.
