Baby last name change, future implications

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oregon

If there is a better forum category for this question, tell me.

We are having a debate on corvallis.craigslist.org/rnr regarding a poster who asked if she could use her last name for the baby. I noticed a previous post here on this forum thread said the father must be notified.

A responding poster on craigslist who debates the opposite position every time says that even if the name change were legal, it would still be an "alias", and the grown child would have trouble getting a drivers license, buying property, obtaining a security clearance, etc. I doubt this is true.

The person with the opposing view is always obstinate and insulting and rarely provides references to back his opinions. I decided to ask here to see if I could find an expert to close this debate about this. ThanksWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Is the baby born and already named? If not mom can name the child at birth with her last name.

Nothing stated by me should be taken as giving you legal advice or forming an attorney/client relationship. The devil is in the details after all.
