Baby Left In Car

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? OHIO

THE FACTS:
A 3 1/2 month old (sleeping) child was left, buckled into a car seat, in the back seat of her mother's locked car. The mother went inside to return something and return in 5 minutes (no shopping) Another customer noticed the infant in the back seat and notified store security. Store security went to the car and comfirmed that the infant was in the back seat unattended. Store security notified the store manager who notified the police and the fire department. The mother returned to the car brought the infant inside and then left before the police/fire department came. (She did not know they had been summoned). She returned home and there was a message to call the police. She called, the police came by and said they had to do a welfare check on the baby. The police officer stated it was against the law to leave a child unattended in a car. No charges were filed at the time of the visit.

THE QUESTIONS:
Will this go on the mother/parents' permanent record?
Will it only be on file in the state of Ohio?
Can the parents obtain a copy of the written report?
Is the welfare check public record?
Can store management, the police, still press charges?

I will answer in the order they were asked.

1. It won't go on the record unless charges are filed.

2. The only file there will be is the police file unless charges are filed. If however charges are filed regardless if they are in Ohio or California it would be possible to be found as it will follow the person.

3. ANYONE can obtain a copy as it is public records. If the mother is wanting one she needs to go to the police department and request a copy of the report.

4. I can not say if the welfare check is public record or not as I'm not sure but IMO it should be in case something else were to ever happen.

5. The police can still press charges as sometimes it takes a bit

It is ILLEGAL ANYWHERE to leave a child unattended as in this situation. First off there is the fear of kidnapping and then there is the fear of heat stroke in warm weather. Hopefully mom learned her lesson.

My response:

Some women are as stupid as a sack of rocks, right Haley? You would agree, correct?

Geez, another example of why there should be "Home Studies" for EVERYONE, before bringing baby home!

check out the site www.kidsandcars.org
It is very informative on the dangers a car poses to your child---not just kidnapping or heatstroke.
