Back Child Support

california - we went to court on january 2001. the deputy district attorney sent a letter to our lawyer stating "the total owed on that account (his non-welfare and walfare arrears) as of 10/30/00 is $16,422.50." now they are claiming he owes $25,909 as of january 2002. he has been paying the child support and $140 towards the arrears every month. my question is can they change the amount even if they found that he did indeed owe more than they claimed in court? we have a copy of the letter that the deputy district attorney sent to our lawyer. please help as soon as possible. we have a meeting with the d.a.'s office tomorrow morning.
