I live in Louisiana. What can be done legally whereas a husband would not be responsible for debt that his spouse has incurred.

My response:

Louisiana is a Community Property State. Therefore, you are both jointly and severally responsible for debts incurred during your marriage.

There is very little, if anything, you can do to escape this fact, with the exception of Bankruptcy.

If you were to file for Legal Separation or Divorce, the debts would then be divided equally between you by the court.
