Birth Certificate Question

What is the name of your state? Pa

I have a question?. My ex-girlfriend and I had a daughter last April she came to me today and asked if i would allow her to put her last name in parenthese after my name at the end of my daughters name my question is if i allow this to happen is it going to come back and bite me in the ass later. The ex and I have'nt been getting along lately she still lets me call my daughter so she can hear my voice and lets me stop over after work to spend some time with her but there is tension between us. I just would like to know if I am going to get burned if this is done

Are you even the legal father? Are there any court orders?

That would honestly be kind of a weird thing to do. Hyphenated last names are very common for children these days, ie Smith-Jones, but I have never seen one as Smith (Jones).

If she takes it to court, a judge would be very likely to grant a request to hyphenate. Judges really like that as a compromise.

It would also depend on how old the child is...If the child is 10 or 12...I doubt it would be in the childs best interest to have a name change now...

He said the child was born last April, so the child is still an infant.

By your last answer I'm going to assume that the answer to the question "Is paternity established" and "are there any court orders" is no. Yes?

The child being named Moonbeam Plutoface would make no difference to your rights and obligations IF you are LEGALLY the father of the child. A name only means something to the people who find it important, not to the courts or anyone else.
