Can my daughter use her step parents last name at school

my daughter has used her step fathers name for the last 6 yrs. In school and all the time legally her name is the same a s her birth. on all legal documents but has gone by step fathers name otherwise,. her real father has not been involved for those 6 yrs has not paid support or nothing
