Cool

cohabitation

I live in Georgia. My boyfriend and I lived together for a little over 2 years. We searched for and bought a house together. Although the house was put in his name only, the agreement was that we were going to get married and that we were building OUR future. Whenever friends would tell me to "get it in writting" he would get angry and tell me that he would never just put me out on the street with nothing. Well, two years later he did just that. I have put around $6000 into the mortgage and restoring that old house. Is there anything I can do to get back the money I put into it? I feel so stupid!

Well, I don't know of a person out there who hasn't felt stupid at one time or another. You can try small claims court, but he's going to say it was rent. So figure 6,000 over two years is about $250. a month. You'd probably be paying more then that in traditional rent anyway. But you can always take it before a judge, see what he/she has to say (try Judge Judy! Hehehe). Personally, it wouldn't be worth the stress to me, I'd file it under "that deep dark black" period of life, learn from it and move on.
