Colorado Law, Change last name of child

What is the name of your state? Co.

I am going to be getting married in the next year, and my wife to be has a child who's last name is not the same as hers. The father has nothing to do with the child at all, no support and never has seen the child but has his last name. I want my wife to be to keep her last name and have the child have the same last name as her. What is the law in colorado, or where can i look.

You can use the search function here on this site. It's a very common q: reality is, you are trying to perform a "backdoor adoption/name change," and it is not going to happen that way.

He said his wife was going to be keeping her own last name, and that the child's should be changed to mom's not to his. So its not really a backdoor adoption/name change.

If dad has been totally out of the picture for a long time (ie years) then mom may be able to change the child's last name....or she may not.

I see the diff -- thanks for catching it.

I'm still not going to research chapter/verse.

But I'll give a hint -- if Mommy wants to change the child's name, then SHE can -- not future possible stepfather -- file for a change and explain her reasons to the court.

And look! Potential stepdad is gone already.
