| Is Washington, DC (District of Columbia) a community property state or not? If not, what type of law does it use for the purposes of property distribution/settlement for divorces? NT |

| My response: The District of Columbia is not a State. There is also no governor, only a mayor. In terms of the law, however, D.C. uses Virginia law. Virginia is a separate property State; thus, divorces in D.C. are decided under Separate Property laws. IAAL |
