Conflict of Interest?

I live in Illinois

My ex and I must go through a mediator, to slove any problems that come up, since the finalization of our divorce before clogging up the courts. We have had to go to mediation twice now. I have found out that my ex is useing the lawyer that is suposed to be our mediator for his own personal business. Doesn't that now make him unbiased? he is a client. Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest? Is that even legal? Help.
