Conservatorship

I live in california.

I'm a 37 year old male living independently on SSI, and there's a running "rumor" in the family that I am under my father's conservatorship and that I don't know it. When I say that couldn't be possible because I was never physically served with any papers to appear in court over the situation, that surely "I" would have been made aware of such a decision....I'm told that I actually was "served" but in a deliberately underhanded (but perfectly legal) manner to insure my "failure to appear" in court, which practically insured the approval of that conservatorship.

I need to find out if this is true or not and how I can go about terminating the conservatorship if there really is one.

Have you checked the courthouse that would have the information concerning this? They should have paperwork about being served, what was presented for the case, and the outcome.

Besides following Skyy's advice...

are you the "representative payee" for your SSI? The answer may provide an additional "clue".

Best wishes.
