I live in southern california and going through custody battle. for the child exchange we would meet at the sheriffs station. my ex-boyfriend is charging me with contempt of court, hes saying that i haven't be showing up and i have, sure there were times i wouldn't but i would call to say i couldn't make it and that he could come to me to get the child. in all he was the one that wasen't showing up, for a month at a time sometimes and yet he is charging me. I have to go to court june 11 2001 with no lawyer and i'm not sure what papers or what i should do , i can't afford a lawyer. can you please give me a little advise as to what i should do? Thanks Deanna Ratchford-Ladyharley268529@cs.com

My response:

You need to oppose the "Order to Show Cause" you received. In order to do that, there are many steps and a plethora of documents that need to be written and filed with the court.

Either find the money to hire an attorney to oppose the "Show Cause" pleadings, or go to your bookstore to buy a book on Divorce, that has a chapter on "Show Cause" matters.

Good luck to you.
