Question

curious if he can pay

What is the name of your state? Virginia
I was divorced from my husband after 16 years last July. I am currently 35. When I was 21, and after having our 2nd child, he sort of forced me into having my tubes tied. He told me if I got pregnant again-we have a girl and a boy-he would leave. I stupidly listened to him. Now we are divorced and I am re-married to a younger man. We want to have a child together, but I can't afford the reversal operation. My first husband made oral agreements to me that he would always "take care" of me. Can I take him to court and have him pay for 1/2 of the reversal? He wouldn't get a vasectomy, although he promised to while we were married. Thank you for taking the time to look this over.

I have sympathy for you b/c you cannot have children. But you are responsible for choices you make concerning your own body. I don't think that you could make him pay for that. Anyone else know? Good luck. And if he doesn't wind up having to pay half, then I hope that you come across the money to have the procedure done.

He is not liable to pay for half of your reversal operation. If he did have a vasectomy while you were married then came to you and said, "My new wife and I really want to have a baby...you need to pay for half my operation to reverse the vasectomy" I bet I would hear you yelling at my house and I live in Chicago!

Live with the consequences of your decisions and move on with your life.
